Twist & Shout Addition: Yellow
Who wouldn’t want to twist and shout their way to learning addition tables from 1-12. It’s fun, it’s lively and the learning is done to a toe-tapping musical beat. Kids groove and move their way through four games, each with a teach” and a quiz mode. Then they twist the number dial to solve the equation and hit it to select an answer. Answers are heard and seen on the LCD screen. It also introduces subtraction. It looks like a Jedi light saber (and surely more than one Star Wars fan will play with it as such), but this unique and colorful toy is actually a snappy way to master addition. Create addition problems by turning and spinning the dials. Then, with a click of a button, an LCD display screen lets you see and hear the correct answer. Catchy music makes learning fun, and a friendly, cartoonish voice repeats the answer, then encourages and congratulates with each success. Included are simple instructions that make learning and using easy. This cool tool can be used to build math equations, self-test, learn addition tables in sequence, or be tested with random equations (the toy also gently introduces subtraction). Made of hard plastic, this item is extremely portable and has automatic shut-off. It is somewhat loud, however, so it’s not appropriate for quieter environments. –Tom Keogh

Wish it had a volume control,
My five year old enjoyed playing with this, but there were several problems. Most importantly, it is just too loud, and it has no volume control. My spouse has since hidden it away somewhere, and I don’t expect it to ever appear again. Secondly, after a few hours of play (over a couple weeks), two of the dial switches became flaky, e.g., dialing random-quiz would instead select learn-it mode, or dialing a number would select the wrong number. Changing to fresh batteries did not help, though shaking it sometimes did. In fact, just before it was banished the switches seemed to be functioning properly. Lastly a minor complaint, the big button on the end has to be pressed firmly and in the center. There was some frustration when an answer was missed because the button was not hit in just the right way. We own two other Leap Frog toys, Little Composer (volume control) and Phonics Learning System Think & Go (not as loud) and have been very happy with them, so the Twist & Shout was a disappointment.

|Very impressive positive reinforcement,
I bought this Leap Frog product for my 6 year old twins they are learning to add in school and having some problems. They enjoy this product so much that they are learning without even realizing it. We make a game out of it and pass it around in a circle with the whole family. I like how it has a quiz and learn it were it teaches the child the addition tables. It also has subtraction. I rate this very high I will buy the multiplication and the pro reader for my children

|great toy for kids – a bit loud,
We got this for my son for Christmas a couple of years ago. He is pretty bright and loves things like this. It’s a great toy, but the volume is too loud. My husband took it apart and put some cotton balls in it and now we can live with it. It was so loud that it was impossible for him to use in the car, because it bothered everybody else. Other than the volume, it’s a great toy.
