As someone who’s always been fidgety, I’ve found this Christmas gift to be heaven sent. It gives me something specifically designed just to be played with while I’m watching TV, having a conversation, or whatever else. When I’ve got nothing better to do, I play with it until I’ve discovered exciting new shapes to make. Then I remake them till I’ve got them down pat and can make them without giving it much thought, while paying attention to something else–though it’s usually likely to distract anyone else watching, becoming something of a good conversation starter.
Educationally speaking, it’s obviously a good way to learn about magnetism, and is easy to draw connections when learning about spatial dynamics. Mathematical and engineering principles can be drawn.
I sort of wish the toy came with some sort of cheat sheet to jump start my inspiration for new designs. Seems like there’s plenty of room in all that packaging–I’m truly at a loss as to why there’s so much empty space in that box. And as other reviewers have mentioned, it’s possible to lose individual balls if you’re not careful. I try always to have at least a few balls held together to make it easier to keep track of them–I’ve had individual balls roll off and it’s very easy to lose them like that, though to date I’ve found every one that’s happened to.
These balls are so much fun, and they’re easy to use and a great way to occupy your hands and a corner of your mind while you’re doing something else. I recommend them highly.
